Web Console

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Web Console allows you to remotely manage SEP in a web browser window. In 14.2 MP1 the following browsers are supported for web console access to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager:

  • Microsoft Edge Note: The 32-bit version Windows 10 does not support web console access on the Edge browser.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11
  • Mozilla Firefox 5.x through 60.x (14.2) or through 62.x (14.2 MP1)
  • Google Chrome 66.x (14.2) or 69.x (14.2 MP1)

Troubleshooting

  1. Enable Finest logging on the local SEPM Console..
  2. Reproduce the issue. Note the time the issue is reproduced.
  3. Collect a Full Symdiag with All Data from the local SEPM server.

Log Review

The following logs should be reviewed:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs

  • Ajaxswing.log
  • Catalina.out
  • Catalina.err

Take the time you gathered in Step 3 in the Troubleshooting section and review the logs starting at that time. Note any Warnings or Errors you see. Search the Symantec Knowledge Base for these errors or warnings.

JAVA Remote Console

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Java Remote Console allows you to remotely manage SEP clients in a Java client. The Java Runtime Software will need to be installed on the system where you want to run the Java Remote Console. Current versions require 64-bit version of Java 8 Update 181.

Common Issues

Failed to connect to server when logging in:

  • Check in the Control Panel > Java (32-bit) > Advanced tab > Advanced Security settings > TLS 1.2 is checked. Just unchecking this and having it available in IE will produce this error.

Login to Java Remote Console takes a long time:

  • Ensure the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager API Service is running on the local SEPM console.
  • Ensure the system running the Java Remote Console has access to port 8446 on the local SEPM console.

Java Remote Console will not install:

  • Ensure 32-bit Java is uninstalled or disabled. Only the 64-bit version of Java should be enabled.  Try the install again.

Troubleshooting

  1. Enable Finest logging on the local SEPM Console..
  2. Reproduce the issue. Note the time the issue is reproduced.
  3. Collect a Full Symdiag with All Data from the local SEPM server.
  4. Gather scm-ui<timestamp>.err logs on the machine from where the remote JAVA console is launched. These are generally in the %Temp%.

Take the time you gathered in Step 3 in the Troubleshooting section and review the logs starting at that time. Note any Warnings or Errors you see. Search the Symantec Knowledge Base for these errors or warning

Pleae have all of this data available if you do need to open up a case with Support.
