The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) requires the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client (bcp.exe & SQLCMD) to communicate with the SQL database. Thus before installing SEPM, it is required to install the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client.
To do so with Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and onwards:
- Execute the Microsoft SQL Server iso file to run the Setup wizard,
- In Setup Role, keep the default option SQL Server Feature Installation and click Next,
- In Feature Selection, select Management Tools - Basic and click Next - see below:
- Complete the Setup wizard to start the installation,
- Once the installation completed, it shows that in addition to Management Tools - Basic, SQL Client Connectivity and SQL Client Connectivity SDK have also been installed - see below:
Additional information:
The Microsoft SQL Server Native Client is located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn (default location) - see below:
While installing SEPM, the Management Server Configuration Wizard requires to browse to the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client folder in order to establish the connection with the database - see below:
