If you want to install Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange, you need to do and check these before the installation:
- Make sure that the server, or servers, on which you plan to install the software meet the minimum system requirements.
- If you run Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam on the server to which you will install Mail Security, you must remove Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam before you install Mail Security. Symantec recommends that you not run Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam on the same computer as Mail Security.
- If you use the email tools feature of Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, you must remove the email tools before you install Mail Security. The email tools feature of Symantec AntiVirus is incompatible with Mail Security or Microsoft Exchange.
- If you run any antivirus software on the computer to which you will install Mail Security, you must disable it before you install Mail Security. After you install Mail Security and before you enable your antivirus software, configure your antivirus software so that it does not scan the folders that Mail Security uses. Detailed information is in the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Implementation Guide.
- You must have domain administrator privileges to install Mail Security correctly.
- Set your screen resolution to 1024 x 768 or higher. Mail security does not support screen resolutions lower than 1024 x 768.
- Configure the default receive connector for the Exchange Hub Transport server to permit connections from anonymous users.
- Please remove any other email scanning components from other email scanning software as it may cause issues, especially on a clustered resource.
If you use Exchange Server 2007/2010, install the product on all of the following server roles in your organization:
Edge Transport servers (if available):
Spam, File Filtering, and AntiVirus scanning will be available
Hub Transport servers:
Spam, File Filtering, and AntiVirus scanning will be available
Mailbox servers:
File Filtering and AntiVirus scanning will be available
Note:
If you change the role of a server on which you installed Mail Security, you must remove the product and re-install it.
When you intall Mail Security on Hub Transport of Edge Transport servers, it automatically installs custom transport agents.
The Mail Security transport agents consist of an antispam transport agent and an antivirus transport agent.
By default, the Mail Security transport agents are installed with a lower priority than the Exchange transport agents. If you modify your transport agent priorities, make sure that you modify the Mail Security transport agents so that they remain at a lower priority than the Exchange transport agents.
